Patriotic Essay Topic 2025
The American Civil War (1861-1865) was not just a war of men. While women have been mostly portrayed as compassionate nurses, romantic spies, or brave ladies who cared for the household without their husbands, about a thousand women participated in battles, lived in camps, were imprisoned, and died for their just cause. These women changed their names, dressed as men, and blended into established military regiments. Some were following their husbands or brothers into battle and others felt it was their duty to help defend and protect the freedom and independence of the United States.
This year's WRC Patriotic Essay Contest topic is to acknowledge those women who took up arms and fought beside regular soldiers and the services they helped provide. Write an at least, 500- word essay that includes citations.
Identify a specific woman who fought or spied during the Civil War and identify her
contributions to the war.
